Bringing the Magic of Chemistry to Sripalee National School

On January 9th, our team at the Applied Chemistry Student Association hit the road and headed to Sripalee National School in Horana for our "CheMaya" seminar. Our goal was simple: we wanted to take chemistry out of the textbook and show students how exciting it can really be.

Science or Magic?

We kicked things off with our Chemistry Magic Show, which was definitely a crowd favorite. Instead of just talking about reactions, we showed them off. Seeing the students' reactions to the sudden color changes and unexpected chemical tricks was amazing.

It was the perfect way to break the ice and prove that chemistry isn't just about memorizing formulas, it's actually pretty cool to watch in action.

Tackling the A/L Syllabus

Of course, it wasn't all just fun and games. A huge part of CheMaya was dedicated to helping Advanced Level students tackle some of the most difficult parts of their chemistry syllabus. We hosted a seminar session focused on breaking down complex theories into simpler, easier to understand pieces.

To keep everyone on their toes and make sure the knowledge was sinking in, we also ran a lively quiz session. The students got surprisingly competitive, and it was great to see them actively using what they had just learned.

Looking Forward

Taking CheMaya to Sripalee National School was an incredibly rewarding experience for all of us at ACSA. We loved sharing our passion for the subject and hopefully inspiring a few future scientists along the way.

A massive thank you to the students and staff at Sripalee for being such welcoming hosts!

This event was made possible by the dedication of our ACSA team and the enthusiasm of every student at Sripalee National School. We look forward to many more CheMaya events across Sri Lanka.
